Grief & loss therapy in Phoenix, Scottsdale & Mesa

The wave that hits in the cereal aisle, the birthday you don't know how to face, the world moving on while you're still standing still. Grief has no timeline, and you don't have to carry it alone.

In person across the Valley or online across Arizona, and in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna & UnitedHealthcare.

How we help

Compassionate, evidence-based grief support

There is no fixing grief, and we will not try to rush you through it. Our therapists offer steady, evidence-informed support, drawing on approaches like acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) when grief gets tangled with anxiety, guilt, or depression. When loss is traumatic or feels stuck, we use trauma-focused approaches too. The goal is not to move on, but to find a way to carry what happened and slowly re-enter your life.

You're not alone in this

Does any of this sound familiar?

Some days feel almost normal, then a wave knocks you flat
People seem to expect you to be "over it" by now
Not quite sure who you are without them
Going through the motions, but not really there
If this sounds familiar, you're in the right place. There's no timeline for grief, and you don't have to carry it alone.

Understanding grief

What grief really is

Grief is not only about death. It follows any deep loss, a marriage, a pregnancy, a friendship, a home, a version of the future you were counting on. It can arrive as sadness, but also as numbness, anger, guilt, exhaustion, or a strange flatness where you expected tears. All of it is normal, and none of it means you are grieving wrong.

Grief does not move in tidy stages, and it does not fully disappear. Over time it usually changes shape, softening and making more room for the rest of your life. Support can help you get there without having to pretend you are fine.

Is therapy actually helpful for grief? ~~ It can be. Therapy will not take the loss away, but it gives you a place to put the weight of it, make sense of the mix of feelings, and find ways to keep living alongside the grief. That can matter most when the people around you have moved on. ||| How long is grief supposed to last? ~~ There is no set timeline, and grief does not move in neat stages. It tends to come in waves that soften over time rather than a straight line, and yours is allowed to look different from anyone else's. ||| When does grief become something more serious? ~~ When grief stays intense and consuming for many months and keeps you from daily life, clinicians sometimes call it prolonged or complicated grief, and it responds well to focused therapy. If you are wondering, that is reason enough to reach out. ||| Do I need therapy, or do I just need time? ~~ Time helps many people, and there is no shame in wanting support alongside it, especially if the loss was sudden or traumatic, if you feel stuck, or if you are carrying it mostly alone. You do not have to be falling apart to come in. ||| Does insurance cover grief therapy, and what does it cost? ~~ Often, yes. We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum, so most people pay a copay set by their plan. We also offer transparent cash rates, and we confirm your exact cost before your first session. ||| Can I do grief therapy online? ~~ Yes. We offer telehealth for anyone located in Arizona, so you can grieve from a space that feels safe, plus in-person care at our five Valley offices. ||| How soon can I get in? ~~ Our care team usually replies the same business day, and most new clients are seen within a few days, rarely more than a week. If you need to be seen sooner, tell us and we'll do our best to fit you in. Telehealth often opens up soonest.
